What does it cost to hire a Carpenter?

You may not know this, but Carpenters these days are much more versatile than they once were. They are the most versatile of all the trades in fact with their abilities widely varied.

They perform a number of tasks from reading building plans, home maintenance and smaller tasks to full scale renovations. Some Carpenters can even build a complete house from start to finish and because their task range varies so much, it’s difficult to say …”this is how much a Carpenter will cost”.

Most Carpenters will try and book in a time with you to come out and quote the job before committing to a firm price. This allows them to best assess the job and your needs and work out what needs to be done. And depending on the scale of the job, your Carpenter may need to get quotes of his own from other tradesmen and suppliers to give you a quote – so expect your quote to take at least a few days.

Carpenters can cost anywhere between $35 and $80 per hour in Melbourne depending on their experience and the job. You may be able to negotiate a day rate if it’s a smaller job or a cheaper rate if the work is ongoing. But as with anything, you get what you pay for so always be weary of the cheapest quote!

You can also expect to pay a premium on weekends (unless otherwise negotiated) but that’s no different to any other industry that pays overtime or call out fees on weekends. As with anything, specific services cost more than others due to the amount of work involved, cost of materials and the technicality of the work.

The best way to find out a price is to get quotes from local Carpenters. We encourage you to get 3 quotes and let us be one of them. Experience the PCM Carpentry difference for yourself and request a quote.
