A freestanding bathtubtub is a bathtub that stands alone and is complete on all sides. They can look elegant and function beautifully in an open style bathroom – giving the illusion of more space and contemporary design.
A traditional or built-in bathtub must be installed against a wall or within a pre-built structure. This style are unfinished on at least two sides. This style of bathtub is typically used however, freestanding bathtubs are becoming more and more popular in modern design and home renovation.
Freestanding bathtubs use to be unattainable due to their high price tag but these days they are much more affordable and accessible. So its really up to you to inform your design and budget; often building a structure for your traditional bathtub to sit in can outweigh the cost of installing a freestanding bathtub. Plumbing in a freestanding bathtub may also be more expensive depending on where you want your tub as the plumbing may need to be moved and is harder to hide.
There are arguments to be made for both styles. It really comes down to personal preference, lifestyle and budget.
